In 2000, the number of international arrivals to the United States from the People's Republic of China and Taiwan were roughly equal at 450,000 travelers. While the events of 9/11 caused a dip in all foreign arrival to the U.S., Chinese travelers quickly reversed the trend. By 2010, over 800,000 Chinese citizens landed in the U.S. Whether for business, family, or tourism, cross-Pacific travel is rapidly increasing. Through September of 2011, the number of PRC travelers for the year exceed 850,000, with forecasts pointing to over 1 million Chinese travelers by December. By 2016, the Office of Travel & Tourism Industries projects nearly 3 million arrivals from the People's Republic of China, with another 386,000 coming from Taiwan.
